SCIAF Pilgrimage Walk
On Monday of Holy Week, forty five S6 students of Saint Peter the Apostle High School, accompanied by staff and school chaplain, Fr. Paddy Boyle, participated in a 9 mile sponsored walking pilgrimage for SCIAF. Our pilgrimage began in prayer in the school oratory where we reflected on the relationship between faith and good works as expressed in words of Saint James. We then took time to consider the works of mercy and how our sponsored walk will enable SCIAF to put mercy into action during this Holy Year.
Inspired and enthused, we set off on our 9 mile route from our school in along the river Clyde to Saint Andrew’s Cathedral. Our energetic bunch completed this in 3 hours, including a stop for lunch and several group photos alongside some of Glasgow's iconic sights along the way.
We were blessed with dry and bright weather as we completed our pilgrimage by passing through the Holy Door. Our group were delighted to be greeted at the cathedral by His Grace, Archbishop Tartaglia who joined us for prayers of intercession and meditation on scripture.
Finally, we were kindly treated to some refreshments in Eyre Hall and a much welcomed rest. There was a great feeling of achievement among our pupils, with some remarking that they had never walked so far in their lives! It really was a memorable way to bring their time in Catholic Education to an end.
Almost £2000 was raised through sponsorship from families, staff and the local community, in particular, the parishioners of Saint Eunan's Parish. This was a wonderful effort from all involved and thank you to all who supported us.
S6 pupils hoping to attend University this year were delighted to have the opportunity to meet Catholic University Chaplains from across the UK at a special event organised by St Aloysius’ College and the Scottish Catholic Education Service. Pupils chatted with Chaplaincy teams from nine top Universities prior to finishing for school for exam leave.
Photographed are pupils of St Peter the Apostle High School, St Ninian’s High School, Holyrood Secondary and Notre Dame High School and St Aloysius’ College along with the various University Chaplaincy teams.
