The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) gives secondary school pupils a hands-on experience of philanthropy that develops their skills and awareness in order to make a positive difference to their communities. Pupils worked in small teams to research and discuss the social needs of their local community and identify the local social service charity they believe is best placed to make a positive contribution. They build relationswith representatives from their chosen charity and work together to create a presentation about their charity and the reasons it is deserving of support. The group judged to have presented the most knowledgeable, impassioned and discerning case was granted £3,000 to award to their charity. During this process, pupils developteamwork, communication and presentation skills as well as an awareness of the needs of their local community.
