Active Schools is a flagship programme under the Scottish Government’s Health Agenda, with funding and management directed by Sport Scotland, the national agency for sport.
The Active Schools Network is a team of Active Schools Managers and Coordinators working within the school and the wider community in Scotland. For SPTA's ACTIVE SCHOOLS extra-curricular schedule, please click here.
Our goal is to offer all children and young people the motivation and opportunities to ‘get active’ via:
- more and higher quality opportunities for all children to participate in sport within schools
- increased capacity, through the recruitment of a network of volunteers who in turn deliver activity sessions in schools.
- making links with sports clubs and other community organisations to give pupils a ‘pathway’ to continue their participation in sport outside of the school gates.
As you may be aware, Active Schools relies heavily on its volunteers in order to run successful school and community provisions. Could you help? As a valued member of your school’s community, running an extra-learning physical activity club could be beneficial in many ways, including the improving the health and wellbeing of the young people in your area, ensuring stronger community cohesion, and learning new skills and developing your CV.
If you would like to volunteer your services by leading or assisting with a breakfast/lunchtime/afterschool sport or exercise club of any variety, either for half a term, a full term or even the full year, then please get in touch with me, your friendly Active Schools Coordinator, Laura Homeyard, to discuss opportunities available to you.
